DTone Martins, former West African Idol participant releases new video ‘Katikati’
January 20th, 2012 — General
DTone Martins, the one who sings like a lark, is back! This time, with a sizzling brand new video, “KatiKati.” Katikati is a Yoruba expression that literally means “Nonsense”; in Pidgin English parlance, it means “Jagbajantis.” When one beholds the love of one’s life, speaking “Katikati” may become the in-thing.
KatiKati is the song that has earned DTone Martins the nickname “the KatiKati Master.” As usual, DTone Martins beautifully clothes contemporary music in the attire of traditional folklore, delivered in unequalled vocals, well-versed lyrics and seductive melody. In the past, he has been compared with the likes of Asa, Bez and Praiz.
With this new video, he has proven that he knows his onions. A listen will convince you. DTone Martins recently premiered two singles, “Sunkun Ife” (Cry for Love) and “Ife Gbagbara” (Love is Energy-Sapping), to wide acclaim. He is arguably one of Nigeria’s most developed talents. His jam sessions have fans singing along, dancing and asking for more. His live performances are electric. Trust me!
DTone Martins with his bushy hair, crooked smile and guitar slung across his shoulder throws up an image of the itinerant musician, busking at train stations in Europe and major world cities but the major difference is that while they play for chicken change, DTone Martins is set for the big times and the big bucks.
DTone Martins played with a jazz band called Jazz 38 with Tunde Kuboye. He also formed a band, “The Wave Jazz Band”, with some friends. Out of hundreds of artistes, he emerged second runner-up at Rhythm Unplugged 2008. He received a Rooftop 1824 CAM Awards 2007 for the distinction of his music performance. DTone Martins also participated in West African Idol.
